The Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (KCAET), is the only Agricultural Engineering college in Kerala, situated at Tavanur in Malappuram district. It is named for the freedom fighter and social reformer Sri K. Kelappan. This college is a constituent institution of Kerala Agricultural University under its faculty of Agricultural Engineering. This college offers B. Tech., M. Tech. and Ph. D. programmes in disciplines related to Agricultural Engineering and Food Engineering. These programmes are conducted by Kerala Agricultural University and are accredited by ICAR and approved by AICTE.

The KCAET, Tavanur is the seat of the erstwhile Rural Institute established by the Government of India in the year 1963. This institute was taken over by the Kerala Agricultural University in 1975 and renamed it as Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT). The IAT offered Diploma courses in Agricultural Science (DASC), Diploma in Agricultural & Rural Engineering (DARE) and Agricultural Mechanic Course (AMC). The Kerala Agricultural University established the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology in the year 1985 by upgrading the IAT and renamed it as "Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology". B.Tech. and M.Tech. Agricultural Engineering courses were started in this sprawling 99-acre campus in 1985. Later, programmes in Food Engineering were started in 2011.
